What should i/we wear?

Simple is best. Generally speaking, busy patterns and logos do not photograph well. Layers and textures are a great way to add depth to your outfit. For the ladies, a scarf or a statement necklace are great options. For the men, layering is the perfect option. Something as simple as a dress shirt layered over a v-neck tee can add depth and texture to your outfit. Need help with your outfit planning? I am happy to help! Just send an email to contact@paperbirchstudios.com and I can provide color coordination and styling guides.

Where should we go?

That is completely up to you! I do have recommendations that I can give to you based on how you visualize your session. I do recommendation staying away from areas of heavy foot traffic as it can be distracting.

what time should we book our session for?

Our preference is to schedule your session in the evening, roughly an hour or two before sunset ( In the spring/summer/early fall this tends to give a start time of around 7:30PM cst.). This lends to the best light and is the lighting you typically see within our galleries. We are available for sessions most evening weeknights and weekends.

what if it rains/do you have a studio?

If it rains, we will reschedule your session for the soonest possible date available. I do not currently have a commercial studio location. However, I am equipped for an in-home session if you wish to opt for that.

do I need to bring anything to my session?

No, you do not NEED to bring anything to your session. However, it is recommended that you do bring snacks & drinks for a family or child session. You are also welcome to bring anything that you wish to have incorporated into your session.

what is your style of photography?

Minimalist. I want to capture the essence of who you are. For this reason, I do not rely heavily on props. I do offer a small variety of chairs, simple baskets, headbands/wraps/bonnets for the little ones and gowns for maternity sessions.

can i request a certain edit/look/prop etc?

This is a hard one. I love when you incorporate items that have sentimental value to you. If there is a pose you are dying to try, I would love for you to share it with me so that we can find ways to make it your own. As for editing, this is one area that I prefer to not change. I edit for the style of photography I shoot, that you see in my portfolio within the galleries of this website. I will do my best to accommodate any requests you have but please know that you are hiring me for my style, and I would love the opportunity to create something unique (dare I say pintrest-worthy!) with you!

How do I book?

Booking is easy! You have two options:
you can pay for your session in full here.
You may pay a retainer fee to hold your date. Retainer fee amounts vary by session type. Once your retainer fee is paid, that balance is taken off your total session balance with the remainder due at your session. Your remaining balance may be paid by cash or debit/credit card. Paper Birch Studios does not accept checks.  Please be advised that retainer fees and any monies paid for your session are non-refundable.

If you must cancel your session, please do so within 48 hours of your scheduled session. Any monies paid are non-refundable. We are happy to rescheduled your session as a one-time courtesy with 48 hour notice or should an emergency arise requiring less that 48 hours notice.

what can I expect after the session?

After the session, sneak peek images will be posted to our Facebook page and/or a blog post for you typically within one week. Your gallery of  fully edited, high resolution images will take 4-6 weeks to complete (In busier times, an extension to 8 weeks may occur. You will be notified immediately if this occurs). Your gallery is delivered to you in a password protected, downloadable online gallery. Your VIP access link and print release will be emailed to you.
While your print release does give you the option to print anywhere you choose, we recommend that you order through your gallery to receive the best quality, professional grade prints. If you wish to print locally, we recommend First Photo at 102 E. Central Entrance #3, Duluth, MN.

I look forward to working with you! If you have any additional questions not answered here, please contact us!
